DATE OF ESTABLISHMENT OF THE DEPARTMENT: 1966.

BUILT UP AREA OF THE DEPARTMENT: 155 sq.m

The department of Geology was established in the year 1966 with an intake capacity of mere 10 students, which has gone up to about 50. Now the present roll is about 350. The department offers three year B.Sc. course in geology and plans to introduce some applied courses. The faculty members have made rich contribution in the field of applied research, which is widely acclaimed. The department has following priority areas in teaching like paleo-climate, neo-tectonics, landslides, environmental geochemistry, Geo-hydrology and studies in hard rock geology.

Laboratory: the laboratory is well equipped as per microscopy is related.

GEOLOGICAL MUSEUM:
Museum is the backbone for learning and understating geology with relation to formation of minerals and rocks. Department of Geology has a good facility and rich source of minerals, rocks and fossils. Further, students are also facilitated petrological microscope to complete their optical properties of minerals.

Students are provided adequate library facilities for assignment topics.

Department of Geology is subscribed Journals namely “Earth system science”.

  1. Department of Geology organized a Geological field work of B.Sc. 1st year and B.Sc. 2nd Year B.Sc. 3rd Year students around the Gratehbal, Ganderbal and Thajwas Glaciers, Sonamarg, Kashmir on 21-08-2014 and 25-08-2014 respectively. They collected different rock samples and other relevant information from the same area.
