The Department of English is one of the premier departments of the college and has a record of having nurtured various personalities of great reputation. As General English and English Literature have been taught as core subjects ever since the inception of the department, the introduction of BA Honours in English in the year 2019 has made it one of the distinctive departments of the college. The department is engaged in gamut of academic activities to strengthen in students four language skills (LSRW) and to enable them to develop critical aptitude for reading various texts. The Honours course and establishment of a well-equipped Language Lab has been captivating talented students from the far off places.

The department endeavours to help students hone their linguistic skills for a better future besides preparing them for pursuing higher studies in the subject. The department envisions to develop in students the understanding and appreciation of various literatures across the world and facilitates them in daily use of English language.
