The Department of Psychology, Govt Degree College Sopore, was established in the year 2003 under the guidance of Dr. Shamim Ahmad Dar, who served as its Head till 2017. At present the Department is under the able leadership of Professor Shamsul Din Sheikh. Psychology Laboratory is fully equipped with up to dated Standardized tests scales checklists and many apparatus. The Department has nearly about 250 psychological Standardized tests, 25 instruments for experimental purpose. The Department has maintained a departmental library with 100 books whereas College Library there are about 2000 psychology books worth INR 110000. Current intake capacity of the Department is 80 students. Department conducts various curricular and co curricular activities like workshops on important psychological topics, seminars, guest lectures, educational visits and tours etc. Department has competent dynamic and approachable faculty members. Apart from teaching they are engaged in curricular, co-curricular activities.

The Department of Psychology seeks to advance the science and professional practice of psychology and its benefiting by disseminating the knowledge we create, promoting our discipline and training our students as partners in advancing scientific knowledge and developing innovative solutions to important life problems both locally and globally.
