Department of Biotechnology was established in 2011. The Department offers Biotechnology as one of the core subjects to students pursuing their bachelor’s programme in science. Currently Department of Biotechnology is equipped with a room for teaching and non-teaching staff and a laboratory-cum-smart classroom where the students take their theory and practical classes. The Department has three sanctioned posts for Assistant Professors out of which one post is filled while two posts have been lying vacant. In addition, the non-teaching staff consists of a Technical Assistant and a Lab Assistant.

The curriculum for Biotechnology is devised in such a way that a student, after getting graduated, gets basic and fundamental knowledge about Genetic Engineering, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Immunology, Plant Biotechnology, Animal Biotechnology, Biostatistics, Microbiology, Biochemistry and various techniques that are used in Biotechnology.

The vision of establishing Department of Biotechnology is to produce competent students with a basic knowledge of the subject. The aim is to nurture students with a potential to innovate, invent and disseminate knowledge for the benefit of society and environment. Moreover, the Department is destined to promote, support and facilitate the development of Biotechnology. The graduated students get equipped with excellent theoretical knowledge and practical skills which fulfills our vision to promote scientific temperament and community service.

• To create awareness about potential of Biotechnology with socio-ethical implications.
• To instil and inculcate the spirit of innovation and creativity in young minds with sound research aptitude.
• To nurture students who are having an instinct to become effective contributors towards growth and development of nation.
