One Day “Induction Program for Library Staff” in SEPTEMBER-2022

After Joining the college as Chief Librarian, Mr Ansaar Hussain organised a Staff Orientation Program on 12th September 2022. The aim of the program was to enlighten the staff personnel about their role while offering different services to the library clienteles. The members were also sensitized about the latest ICT inclusion in the field and were given an expertise hand during the course of program. The event ended with vote of thanks from Mr Fayaz Ahmad Wagay who on behalf of all the staff members thanked Mr Ansaar Hussain for organising and sensitizing the staff members regarding Library Automation and other allied processes. One Day Awareness Program on “OPEN EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES in HIGHER EDUCATION” in DECEMBER-2022

Department of Library and Information Science, Govt Degree college- Sopore, under the ambit of “My College My Pride” program organised an awareness program on “Open Educational Resources in Higher Education” on 12th December-2022. The event was attended by faculty members and students of the college. During the event, Mr Ansaar Hussain-Chief Librarian of the college gave some thorough insights about the Open Educational Resources that are available for faculty and students in Higher Education, and also gave a practical demonstration regarding “How and Why” to use such resources and platforms. One Month “INTERNSHIP PROGRAM” FOR BLIS/MLIS Students of IGNOU in FEBRUARY-2023

Department of Library and Information Science, Govt Degree college- Sopore, successfully conducted one month “Internship Program” for BLIS/MLIS students of the IGNOU. The program started in the first week of February-2023. During the month-long program the participants were sensitized about the basic operations and services in an academic library. The candidates were gives hand-on training about Integrated Library Management Software like SOUL 2.0 and recent ICT trends in a library set up. Department of Library and Information Science, Govt Degree college- Sopore, under the supervision of College Principal Prof (Dr) Salma Ahad organised an awareness program on “NLIST and Other OERs” on February-2023. The event was attended by faculty members and students of the college. During the event, Mr Ansaar Hussain-Chief Librarian of the college gave some thorough insights about the Open Educational Resources like NLIST, NDL, DOAJ, DOAB etc that are available for faculty and students in Higher Education, and also gave a practical demonstration regarding “How and Why” to use such resources and platforms. Ten Days “PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM” in APRIL-MAY (2023)

Department of Library and Information Science, GDC Sopore, organised and successfully conducted 10 day “Personality Development Program” from 26th April-2023. During the program the registered students were sensitized about below mentioned five modules, viz:

  1. Basics of Computer Technology
  2. Open Educational Resources available for Students
  3. Detailed Career Corner and other facilities available for students in College
  4. Improving Communication Skills (Letter/Notes/CV writing)
  5. How to prepare for interviews

Mr Ansaar Hussain (Chief librarian of the college) acted as the resource person during the entire program. The program culminated on 8th May-2023 with the distribution of certificates to the registered participants. Check Gallery for Images.

NAAC PEER TEAM VISIT IN MAY-2023

NAAC PEER TEAM visited Department of Library and Information Science and other departments of the college during May-2023. During their visit the team was appraised by Chief Librarian (Mr Ansaar Hussain) about the role played by the department in supporting the teaching and learning process in the college. The team was also given first hand information about the services offered and activities/programs undertaken by the library department for its clienteles. RFID INAUGURATION AND BOOK RELEASE CEREMONY

Principal Government Degree College Sopore – Prof (Dr) Salma Ahad on 04-10-2023 inaugurated RFID automation facility in the central library of GDC Sopore. During the event, she also released a book written by Mr Ansaar Hussain (Chief Librarian of the college) on the subject RFID under the title “Radio Frequency Identification (RFID): A new approach in Auto-ID”. The author, in his opening remark, highlighted the role that RFID technology can play in an academic setup and also briefed about the outline of his book. This book gives an outlook about different automatic identification systems available in the market and also traces the evolution of RFID technology in different sectors. The book confers about different components and equipments of RFID technology along with their major specifications. It highlights prerequisites that are essential before the installation of an RFID system and discusses elaborately the purchase process, installation steps, configuring methods and commissioning practices of RFID technology. Prof (Dr) Salam Ahad in her remarks highlighted the contribution of Mr Ansaar Hussain for the overall development of the department. AWARENESS PROGRAM FOR 1st SEMESTER STUDENTS IN OCTOBER-2023

The Department of Library and Information Science under the ambit of “KNOW YOUR LIBRARY” program conducted one day awareness program for the first semester students of the college. The event was conducted on 16th October-2023 in the reading room of the library department. During the program the candidates were made aware of following:

  1. Various services offered by library to its clienteles.
  2. Use of RFID and other IT based gadgets for smooth transactions.
  3. Open Educational Resources/e-resources available for students.
