The Department of Physics is one of the oldest departments of the Govt. Degree College, Sopore which initiated its courses in B.Sc including subjects of Physics viz. Mechanics, Electricity and Magnetism, Solid State Physics and electronics, Heat and Thermodynamics, Optics, Molecular and Nuclear physics. The Department of Physics is housed in the spacious college building equipped with all basic facilities. The Department boosts a faculty of inspiring teachers, creative students and equally accomplished alumni. As pointed out by Albert Einstein “The supreme art of the teacher” is “to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge”. The Department is equipped with excellent infrastructure and latest books in the field of Physics. Richard Feynman had once said, “It doesn’t matter how beautiful your theory is, it doesn’t matter how smart you are, if it doesn’t agree with experiment, it is wrong.” Implementing this wisdom into practice, we ensure that apart from imparting strong theoretical foundation, we also provide students with laboratory that are fully equipped with latest facilities and instruments so that they can gain knowledge and practice by conducting experiments on optics, electronics, mechanics, thermal physics etc. The overall objective of the department is to provide high quality learning in physics, grooming bright undergraduate who will push frontiers of knowledge in physics and its related disciplines through academic activities.
