Department of Mathematics
About the Department & the Subject
Mathematics, as Bertrand Russell said, if rightly viewed, possesses not only truth, but supreme beauty—a beauty cold and austere, like that of sculpture, without appeal to any part of our weaker nature, without the gorgeous trappings of painting or music, yet sublimely pure, and capable of a stern perfection such as only the greatest art can show.
In the words of John Locke, Mathematics is a way to settle in the mind a habit of reasoning. Mathematics has almost always been important for human progress. However, the fact remains that, in current times, it has become an indispensable tool of all research. Its impact is universal and its sphere of influence seems ever-increasing in its radius. There is hardly a branch of scientific knowledge that has remained untouched by Mathematics.
The department of Mathematics is one of the oldest in the college. The department is located in the main building of the college. The department has a separate room, a good number of books and a couple of computers to facilitate its functioning. However, the department needs up-gradation in terms of infrastructure and other facilities.

Vision
The department strives to inculcate quantitative, analytical and logical skills in the students. We envision producing those who possess the knowledge of mathematical tools, of logical and inferential acumen.
Mission
The department strives to visualize the mission of seeing its students being trained in analytical skills, numerical abilities, logical derivations, spatial understanding and statistical inference.
