About the department & the subject

Kashmiri language is among one of the oldest spoken languages in India. The constitution of India has recognized it as an official language under schedule 8. The language has preserved and promoted thousands of social, political and ethical values of Kashmiri people. Kashmiri language is real representative of their emotions, thoughts and feelings.

Department of Kashmiri is one among the oldest departments of GDC Sopore. The department has taught hundreds of students and produced many scholars and intellectuals who are serving the society in different fields. Department of Kashmiri offers different courses to students like skill enhancement course in Kashmiri and generic elective. The department imparts the knowledge of origin of Kashmiri language, Kashmiri grammar, morphology, Kashmiri prose and poetry and importance of translation in Kashmiri language to the students. In the year 2020 the university of Kashmir has granted affiliation to the department to run the PG Program in Kashmiri.

Vision

The prime vision of the department is to promote and preserve the Kashmiri language and literature and make the language job oriented by different means.

 

Mission

  • To introduce courses like MIL for non-Kashmiri-knowing students
  • To make Kashmiri language job oriented by introducing new skill courses
  • To start a translation cell for the promotion of Kashmiri language
  • To impart quality education at all levels of teaching
